If you would like to direct a domain that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, one of the ways to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's pointed to. That way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the site you have set up, but it will also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this kind of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

Creating a CNAME record through our shared web hosting service is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in only a few basic steps. You'll find a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with many possibilities - if you build a company website on our end, for instance, the employees can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a website through a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain name, so all your clients will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually seems a challenging task to the people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each semi-dedicated service which we offer, is very simple to use. If you need to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will have to do will be to pick the domain address or subdomain you need, pick the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type in the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is quite easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be 100 % active and within a couple of hours it is going to propagate worldwide. If you're not sure what you should do, we've prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located within that very same section of Hepsia. Needless to say, you can also get in touch with us for help at any time.
